Tired of Replacing Broken Spa Covers?

A common misconception is that the foam inside a hard cover is well, “hard.”  Even though the foam really is not designed for impacts at all; we receive calls from customers a lot who are looking to buy a new cover because their foam cover was destroyed by hail or rain.  Traditional foam covers when under impacts or weight like you would see with hail storms or heavy rain fall will not be absorbed by the foam covers.  Actually, what happens is that when the weight or impact occurs it breaks down the foam inside your cover and allows it to sag into the water of your spa, and therefore is completely useless.
If you live in an area like me that experiences a variety of things every day that could be the death of a hard foam cover, than you might be asking yourself if there is some other product out there that can withstand these elements.  The foam in your hard cover is going to take a beating under falling debris, branches, heavy rain or hail, do you want to loose another cover like that?
You do have a couple options though.  You could buy an Aluminum cover—it’s definitely stronger than a foam cover, and able to withstand more pressure and weight.  Although you’d still have decide where you’re going to store it while you are in your spa.  They are extremely huge and take up a lot of space.  Not to mention, the slightest gust of wind may send your cover flying, making for a very expensive, very large and destructive Frisbee.
You could purchase a roll cover. They’re exceptionally strong and basically work like a portion of deck that you roll over the spa. The down side is they tend to collect small debris and allow the debris to get into the spa. Though they’re strong roll covers offer little in the way of insulation.
You could go for the reinforced rigid foam cover.  This s one of the latest developments in this area; it is designed with the foam inserts glued to a board for strength. This would of course handle all but the most devastating hail storm. Only two caveats on this type of spa cover, it still will fly in a wind storm and with the added mass it will do serious damage to anything it lands on and it will still eventually become saturated. Once it is saturated a cover like this will be at least a four person job to open the spa.
The solution to this would be something that is able to give or absorb impacts. In Hollywood when a stunt man falls from a great height, he wants to land on something that will absorb his impact like an air bag. The air bag principle would work as a spa cover to guard against impact damage. Just like the stunt man landing on a cushion of air the same would be true of debris, branches and even severe hail. This is one of the advantages of the SpaCap Spa Covers.
The stunt air bag is designed to open and release air when it catches the stunt person so please do not use your air filled hot tub cover this way. However if your house is on fire and you have to jump out of the window aiming for the large air bag would probably save your life. I should note here that jumping on any spa cover would not be covered by the warranty.
No matter how fierce the storm or the hail stone an air filled spa cover will give or catch it without damage. We have tested them by driving golf balls into them at close range, dropping bowling balls on them and just having them in use around the country in areas that get severe hail storms. Before you replace another rigid foam spa cover because it broke, consider the only Spa Covers that will not end up the same way, the SpaCap.
